WebbLight of any given combination of hue and saturation can have a variable brightness (also called intensity, lightness, or value), which depends on the total amount of light energy present. Lightness of a color is changed by varying the intensity of all three primary colors by the same amount. WebbSaturation describes the vividness/dullness of a perceived color and, like lightness, can be measured independently of hue. Among the most widely used color spaces for defining and mathematically expressing these attributes are the CIE’s Yxy color space, established in 1931; the 1976 L*a*b* color space; and the L*C*h color space.
