WebFeb 7, 2016 · MIPS general purpose registers are 32-bit. lw loads 32 bits and there's nowhere to extend, so, there's no lwu... until you get a 64-bit MIPS CPU with 64-bit registers, where unsurprisingly you do have lwu (loads 32-bit with zero extension; lw does sign extension) and ld (loads 64-bit).
